Gloucester and Tewkesbury 09.07



Catedrala Gloucester, sau Catedrala Sf. Petru şi Sfânta Treime, se află în partea de nord a oraşului, lângă râu. Acesta are originea în 678 sau 679, pe o fundaţie de manastire inchinata Sfantului Petru.
Monumentul cel mai notabil este mormantul regelui Edward al II-lea al Angliei, care a fost ucis în apropiere, la Berkeley. Într-o capelă laterală este un monument din lemn de stejar de mlaştină in cinstea lui Robert Curthose, fiul cel mare al lui William Cuceritorul şi un mare binefăcător al mănăstirii, care a fost îngropat acolo. Între 1873 şi 1890, şi în 1897, catedrala a fost restaurata de către Sir George Gilbert Scott.Catedrala a fost folosit din anul 2000 ca o locaţie de filmare pentru filmele Harry Potter, care a generat venituri şi de publicitate, dar a determinat unele controverse în rândul celor care sugerează faptul că tema filmelor a fost nepotrivita pentru o biserică.



In luna iulie, oraşul Tewksbury găzduieşte Festivalul Medieval Tewkesbury, cu "bătălia cea mai mare din Europa". Mii de fani vin în oraş din întreaga lume pentru a reface Bătălia de la Tewkesbury în apropiere de site-ul original. Festivalul cuprinde o "istorie vie" recrearea unei tabare medieval, jocuri, produse alimentare şi un târg mare în care imbrăcăminte, mobilier şi arme pot fi achiziţionate. În 2008, festivalul a sarbatorit 25 de ani.






Cheltenham Vineri 8.07

Prima parte a zilei a cuprins o vizita la muzeul din Cheltenham, in care am discutat despre valentele educative ale muzeului, modul in care diferitele obiecte pot determina folosirea cunostintelor de istorie.

A doua parte a fost o dezbatere pe tema "The National Curriculum in History & Teaching of History in British Secondary Schools", dezbatere condusa de d-na Margaret Wright. Am realizat un feedback despre scoala vizitata miercuri, apoi fiecare dintre noi a prezentat cateva aspecte ale predarii istoriei in tara respectiva, si in final d-na Wright a prezentat locul istoriei in sistemul britanic. Interesant este ca in Anglia nu se preda istoria cronologic ci pe tematici ( Istoria Tudorilor, Medicina din epoca medievala pana in cea contemporana, URSS intre 1917-1991 etc.), astfel ca ei au doua sau trei manuale intr-un an.

A treia parte a fost discutia finala si inmanarea certificatelor.





South Wales 07.07 2


O plimbare în Ţara Galilor - de la timpurile celtice pana în ziua de azi. St Fagans este unul din muzeele în aer liber cele mai apreciate din Europa şiface parte din patrimoniul Ţarii Galilor.
Deschis publicului de la 1 noiembrie 1948, muzeul se află pe terenul magnific Castelului St Fagans, conac târziu din secolul 16, donat Ţarii Galilor de către Earl de Plymouth.
Pe parcursul ultimilor cincizeci de ani peste patruzeci de cladiri originale din diferite perioade istorice, au fost re-construit în parc in peste 100 de acri, printre care case, o fermă, o şcoală, o capela si un splendid atelier.
Există, de asemenea, galerii cu expoziţii de costume, de zi cu zi şi a uneltelor agricole. Expoziţii speciale sunt, de asemenea, în mod regulat. Galeriile includ acum interesanta si inovatoare Oriel 1 , cu expozitii despre viaţa şi identitateaoamenilor din Ţara Galilor de astăzi.
St Fagans exploreaza toate aspectele legate de modul în care oamenii au trăit în Ţara Galilor, cum au lucrat si şi-au petrecut timpul liber.

South Wales 07.07 1

Big Pit este o mină de cărbuni reala şi unul dintre muzeele miniere de frunte din Marea Britanie.
Cu facilităţi pentru a educa şi distra toate vârstele, Big Pit este interesant şi informativ. Putem sa ne bucuram de un tur multi-media, de o mină de cărbuni moderna, expoziţii si clădiri istorice; este practic prima mină de cărbuni deschisa pentru public.
Big Pit a devenit parte a Amgueddfa Cymru - Muzeul Naţional al Wales la 1 februarie 2001. După reamenajare,s-a re-deschis în 2004 şi a caştigat prestigiosul Premiu Gulbenkian de Muzeu al Anului. In prima parte a zilei am efectuat o vizita la aceasta mina, inchisa in 1981.


Wyedean School and Sixth Form Miercuri 6.07








A fost o zi rezervata vizitarii scolii Wyedean School and Sixth Form. (http://www.wyedean.gloucs.sch.uk/default.aspx).
Wyedean se bucură de o tradiţie academica excelenta. Rezultatele noastre la subiectele de bază de limba engleză, matematică şi ştiinţe sunt semnificativ mai bune decât media pe district şi sunt literalmente printre cele mai bune din ţară pentru acest tip de şcoală. Wyedean este o şcoală în Sedbury, Gloucestershire, chiar la graniţă cu Chepstow, Ţara Galilor. Şcoala este aproape de A48, adica mai putin de o milă de frontiera cu Tara Galilor.
Wyedean School este o scoala mixta, cu peste 1200 de elevi, inclusiv 250 în Sixth Form. A fost înfiinţata în 1973 şi a fost apoi mutata în 1976 în locaţia actuală.
Şcoala are o mare sală de sport care poate fi închiriata seara, o nouă bibliotecă, cu facilităţi IT, o nouă cantină, cu o varietate de mâncăruri calde şi reci care pot fi achiziţionate, o sală de muzică nouă echipata cu PC-uri legate la echipamentul de înregistrare; şi o nouă tehnologie de proiectare. Un bloc cu destinaţie specială, Sixth Form, a fost construit pentru a veni în ajutorul numărului tot mai mare de studenti A1. JK Rowling, autoarea cărţilor Harry Potter a fost eleva scolii si chiar sefa fetelor în 1982.
Noi am participat la 3 ore: o ora de istorie la clasa a opta, o alta la clasa a 12-a, si o alta de limba germana la clasa a sasea. Prima ora a constat in realizarea unui referat cu titlul "Ar trebui ca oarsul Bristol sa-si ceara scuze pentru comertul cu sclavi?". Elevii strangeau materiale de pe internet, sub supravegherea profesorului si a profesorului asistent (noutate pentru noi - acest profesor avea in grija un singur elev, iar daca acest elev se simtea bine, se putea ocupa si de ceilalti elevi). A doua ora a fost mult mai interactiva, elevii aveau o lectie despre rebeliunile nobiliare din timpul dinastiei Tudorilor. Intrebarile erau problematinzante, solicitau informatii anterioare, verificand si sintetizand in acelasi timp. Acesti elevi de la Sixth Form au ales istoria ca disciplina de studiu, erau putini, vreo 15, si urmau o cariera umanista.
Ultima lectie afost o lectie obisnuita, s-u predat verbele, s-a discutat despre topica in limba germana etc.









Cheltenham Marti 5.07



A doua zi a fost ziua CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) at secondary level, coordonatorul fiind dr.Diane Hicks. Principalele teme dicutate:

Cheltenham Luni 4.07


La Maxima Forum Conference Centre s-a desfasurat prima noastra intalnire. Prima intalnire am avut-o cu Carol Stephens, care ne-a urat bun venit si afacut o prezentare mai ampla a programului. Apoi ne-am prezentat, atat ca persoane cat si ca motivatii si am trecut la partea a doua.
Consultantul in educatie Mick Abrahams si-a stabilit ca tema "Secondary Education in England: Recent Developments and Current Issues". Principalele probleme ridicate au fost: eficienta sistemului si echitatea sistemului. trebuie facut ca sistemul sa fie cat mai echilibrat iar triunghiul facut de conceptele Echitate-Excelenta-Eficienta sa fie echilater. Am observat un sindrom "Finlanda", sistemul finlandez fiind laudat si invocat.

Preparation Participants complete a detailed questionnaire before the course starts to indicate their level of experience and training, as well as the age groups and types of learners they teach. Participants are asked to prepare their contribution to the discussion comparing the teaching of history in the different European countries represented on the course.
Objectives The course aims to provide Teachers with:

• an insight into the teaching of History in British Secondary Schools

• an opportunity to compare the teaching of History in different European countries, to exchange ideas and develop links with teachers from other European countries

• an introduction to CLIL (Content & Language Integrated Learning) focusing on history

• an insight into different aspects of British history and historical heritage

3. Group Discussion comparing the teaching of History in the different countries represented – curriculum, materials, methods, standards, assessment, national education policies, etc. – with a British History teacher

4. Day visit to a secondary school. Observe History lessons and opportunity for discussion with History teachers

5. A Day workshop on C.L.I.L. (Content and Language Integrated Learning) Methodology focusing on History

6. Historical visits:
• Gloucester Cathedral & Tewkesbury with Medieval Battle Re-enactment
• The Big Pit National Mining Museum of Wales
• St Fagans Welsh National History Museum (Open-Air Museum and St Fagans Castle)
• Cheltenham Museum with inset session on educational visits for secondary school pupils.

Follow-up It is hoped that participants will keep in contact with each other with a view to establishing inter-school links and projects.

At the end of the course teachers are asked to consider which aspects of the course will be the most relevant to their teaching situations. On their return they are invited to keep a record of how they have been able to utilise ideas gained on the course in their own classrooms. They are encouraged to share their experiences with their fellow participants by email. Teachers will also have email access to the teacher trainers for discussion and advice after the course.

CHELTENHAM, ENGLAND: Population: 108,000; 98 miles (157 kilometres) west of London (2 hours by rail, 2½ hours by coach). Cheltenham is an elegant spa town, situated on the edge of the Cotswold Hills, which are famous for their picturesque stone villages. Cheltenham is known for its Regency architecture, wide tree-lined streets, parks and gardens and it has many attractive residential areas.
